An early morning walk along the Potomac River at Riverbend Park produced one
of the two RED-NECKED GREBES I reported seeing on Tuesday. Today's grebe
kept me company from just south of the visitors' center to the Wendt Rd.
picnic area (across from Conn Island), before flying back up river to continue
its
"drift fishing". I also spotted a COMMON GOLDENEYE and three LESSER SCAUP
near Conn Island. The other ducks reported on Tuesday were also present: WOOD
DUCK, MALLARD, RING-NECKED DUCK, COMMON MERGANSER, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER,
and BUFFLEHEAD.
The immature TUNDRA SWAN is still present. It can be observed up river
where the Nature Center trail meets the river trail. D-C CORMORANTS, GREAT
BLUE
HERONS, CANADA GEESE and RING-BILLED GULLS were also present.
SONG SPARROWS joined the spring chorus along the river trail.
