No major changes 12/7 or 12/6 along the James WRT to species present. Still
about the same number of BUFFs, cormorants alternating between partially
submerged vegetation and tall sycamores, and the occasional plucky grebe
battling the current. On the 6th I decided to look for ducks on various
quiet ponds not far from the river. Less than 20 RNDUs were scattered
across Byrd Park among the gulls, geese, etc. and one FAT grebe in the pond
with the island. Biggest pied billed I have ever seen. No current to burn
calories there! The recently excavated pond at FHP was completely bird
free. Probably needs to build up a food supply, although there was a
kingfisher flying by. No ducks seen from the entrance of Pumphouse, though
I did not go in-sometimes the foot traffic there causes a gut check. Stony
Point has the usual office park ducks and geese right now. Rain forecast
again tomorrow.
