I spent a few hours this morning around the wetland on Riverside Dr., mostly
looking for dragonflies and damselflies, but saw a few nice birds as well. Near
the parking lot, there were 2 juvenile Grasshopper Sparrows in a large bush.
Other nice birds were raptors: 3 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Cooper's Hawk, 1
Osprey and a sub-adult Bald Eagle. The wetland was not very wet, so no
shorebirds, and only a single Green Heron.
Along Loudoun County Parkway, the usual open wet spots did not look good for
shorebirds as they were filled with cattails.
