Weather:
Very nice day with moderate NW winds early switching to light SSE breeze by
2pm. 23.6-29.6C temp. Mostly sunny with good visibility.
Raptor Observations:
In Rose's words: Last bird today was super ... an adult Mississippi Kite at
3:56pm. It appeared from over Waynesboro to the west. I got it in the scope
when it was a bit distant beyond the cell tower. Watched it for more than
15 minutes. The last several minutes it was closer to the inn, at one point
over the lower parking area were the popcorn stand is. It came around to
the east side of the inn and went down the valley. Spent a good amount of
time catching insects, probably dragonflies. Great views. I feel lucky that
I was able to watch it for so long.
The first bird today was an adult male harrier at 8:58am. It did not fool
around; apppeared over the ridge and then quickly down Rockfish Valley.
Non-raptor Observations:
5 hummingbirds, 6 Monarchs
