Walked a few miles along the north end of the oceanfront (64th street to
Fort Story) this evening and saw my first two Royal Terns of the year!
Great & Lesser Black-backed, Herring, Ring-billed, & Bonaparte's Gulls all
present as well. Several Red-throated Loons were in close enough to see
clearly without binoculars or a scope.
High numbers of Red-breasted Mergansers (several hundred) were seen
streaming south. Also a high number of Brown Pelicans in long lines of up
to 50 birds were spotted, I've never seen them in groups that large along
the beach before. Also a pair of Osprey soared over the beach for a while.
What a beautiful evening to be out near the water!
