Here in Lynchburg the normal departure date for the Ruby-throated
Hummingbird is listed as October 5 and many of us still have hummingbirds
at the feeders now. We routinely have visitors at least to this date and
every year a few birds linger to mid-October. We no longer list a late
date for this species because in 2010, a hummingbird was banded on 4
December and remained through 23 December.
