When I arrived in the Ripley Garden this morning at 8:15, the Rufous
hummingbird was once again perched on one of the rods on the heat lamp,
enjoying her personal tanning salon. She moved to the feeder for a drink,
and then alternated between perching in the Rose bush and chasing the
fluffy white snowflakes (surely she has discovered by now they have little
nutritional value; perhaps it is a game to her?). And although I should be
used to it, it still amazes me to see her silhouetted against the gray,
snow-filled skies.
