Before heading to work this morning, I spent a few hours at Bells Mill Park.
The entire bird list is below, but I thought I should describe the spot where
the Orange-crowned Warbler was seen. The spot is in the western field of the
park, just past the open area containing a green barn/shed and abandoned house
trailer (set in the background of the open area). The warbler was feeding in a
weedy patch (mostly goldenrod), among a few young pine trees, along the
fenceline here. I really enjoyed watching this vivacious bird (I have a soft
spot for dull warblers and little brown jobs) for a few minutes, which was
relatively bright for an Orange-crowned Warbler. Its underparts were very
yellow and the back, wings (no wingbars), and cap were grayish-green (seemed to
contrast with the underparts). There were single faint white spots above and
below the eye.
The Rusty Blackbird was neat too -- just wish it had perched. The snipe were in
muddy spots in the grass.
It was a nice way to start off the day.
