Over the two weeks there's been a Rusty flock seen fairly regularly southeast
of Harrisonburg in the area bounded by Port Republic, Spaders Church, Pleasant
Valley and Osceola Springs Roads. This evening after scoping the birds (all of
those I saw appeared to be Rustys) I was able to grab a flight shot of the
flock (or maybe part of it?), which shows about 550 birds.
Nice finale to a fairly dull birding day! Several of us missed all local
targets including Red Crossbills on Shenandoah Mountain west of Dayton; Mt.
Solon Loggerhead Shrike and Eurasian Collared-Doves (although we did hear a
distant cow mooing that briefly tricked one in our party...'twas a VERY close
match for the doves!)
