I had the opportunity to go down this afternoon to check on kites with my
Vertebrate Natural History class that happened to have a lab on birds scheduled
this first day of classes. We were there from about 2:40-3:40. The two
Swallow-tailed Kites were there continually, foraging at a moderate height, and
were joined periodically by a Mississippi Kite. We were pretty sure that two
different Mississippi Kites were present at different times because at one
point it looked like it was missing a tail feather. And Dave Dawson reported a
little while ago to me that when he stopped in briefly just after us at 4 PM
that he found two of each kite present. And I see now that Thelma Dalmas found
them all present this morning.
