All,
Did a bit of birding the morning around Rockingham county area, highlights
were 4 Bonaparte's Gulls and 22 Hooded Mergansers at Shenandoah Lake a half
dozen Shovelers and several Widgeons. See e-bird list below. Also drove
round the Leonard's Pond area where there were an additional 3 Green-winged
Teal. Sparrows were there in good numbers but nothing unusual spotted.
Siliver Lake in Dayton was devoid of wild ducks. As a youngster I used to
bike to Silver Lake at the break of dawn to catch the migrating ducks. I
could count on seeing lots of diversity and good numbers. There were no
fishermen around today so I don't know what to attribute this change to.
