[Va-bird] Sky Meadows / Blandy birding, 11/09/12

From 11:30 to 1pm I checked out the beginning of the Bridle Trail and the
Shearman's Mill Trail. Overall it was pretty slow. No Say's Phoebe.
Highlights were a PALM WARBLER along the Bridle Trail, a FOX SPARROW along
the Shearman's Mill Trail. 7 sparrow species total, including WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW.
I stopped by Blandy for a few minutes on the way back and immediately found
the LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE after I parked at the meteorological tower on the
north side of the loop. It was actively hunting straight across the field
along the last rise you can see (a good distance, needed my scope without
walking). Also, the RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were extremely vocal and active
in the cedars near the main parking lot. A BALD EAGLE flew over at high
altitude shortly before I left.
