VA BIRDers,
Linda Millington and I birded the bridle trail of Sky Meadows SP starting at
about 9 am today. Highlights were Lincoln's and Vesper Sparrows. We also
encountered a Common Yellowthroat. The parking lot and trail were very
birdy, esp. with sparrows and Yellow-rumps with significant numbers of birds
flying this way and that. My estimates are probably low. The list of 50
species is below (11 sparrow species at Sky Meadows, 1 additional
elsewhere).
I started off at Harrison Rd which had several flyover Pine Siskins.
Notables were: Gadwall - 3, Am. Black Duck - 2, Mallard - 2, Ring-necked
Duck - 18, Ruddy Duck - 71, Killdeer - 1, Hairy WP - 1, Palm Warbler - 2,
Chipping Sp - 10, Rusty BB - 8, Com. Grackle - 6, & Pine Siskin - 7
After lunch, Linda and I did the Greengarden Rd area (Loudoun Co) and the
notables were: Lesser Scaup - 9, Cooper's Hawk - 1, Red-headed WP - 1, YB
Sapsucker - 1, Com. Raven - 7, Yellow-rumped - 12, & Chipping Sp - 8.
