VA Birders:
I found this morning at Sky Meadows State Park the Loggerhead Shrike reported
yesterday by James Fox. The bird was along the north end of the Hayfield Trail
in the trees above Bluebird Box #78. This bird was really interesting to view
and listen to because it sang a full repertoire of a Loggerhead Shrike's odd
songs and harsh call notes.
I also found a Vespers Sparrow out in the large field between Hayfield Trail
and Rolling Meadows Trail. I found it by walking this field along a tractor
trail from the southeast junction of Hayfield Trail & Rolling Meadows Trail
diagonally northwest across this field back to the T-junction of Rolling
Meadows Trail and the feeder trail from the parking lot. The bird was in this
field perched up in a lone, dormant tree preening.
