Phil & VA Birders,
Phil Kenny's posting about Woodcock or Snipe reminded me that I should
have posted a note about the 7 Wilson's Snipe the 9 hearty birders on our
Northern Virginia Bird Club (NVBC) trip found at Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax
Co.,
last Saturday, Dec. 13. They were sitting out on small sandspits with just a
few little stumps a short distance from the boardwalk, just beyond where the
loop comes back together when you are heading toward the tower. The birds were
gorgeous and we had fantastic views of them in perfect light as they just sat
there in plain view while we watched them. On our way back, we saw them
again; this time they had moved a short distance to the right and appeared to
be
feeding. They were definitely the highlight of our trip, at least for me.
