Hello, all.
In light of the scoters just reported at Chris Greene (great find and
photo!), let this message serve as a reminder to folks to switch to their
winter birding routine. In particular, it's time to check for waterfowl.
Stillfreds Pond this morning held buffleheads and pied-billed grebes. The
smaller pond across the street from Stillfreds had no birds in it, but the
scrub around it was rather busy with bird activity.
Ruritan Lake in Cunningham, Fluvanna County, was empty, but I'm sure that
will change.
Pleasant Grove Park was busy with winter birds. Sparrow flocks roamed the
fields and kinglets afforded long clear views just a few feet in front of
me at eye level. I also saw a likely winter wren.
The annual winter residents are abounding now; get out there and enjoy our
winter visitors!
