There was a strange thrush singing with the hyperactive Wood Thrush in
the yard this morning. As hard as I listened...it just wouldn't become
a Veery...so while sitting in my office I put on the Peterson's and
began to compare thrushes. Sure enough...it matches the Swainson's. I
have not heard him for the past 20 minutes or so (though the Wood Thrush
is still going strong)...but he sang all across the front yard in the
woods this morning for over an hour. NEW YARD BIRD for Gum Spring!!
P.S. Thanks to the Margaret Watson Bird Club for their new edition of
the "Birds of Virginia's South Central Piedmont". It helped me confirm
that what I was hearing was actually possible!!
