Greg Moyers and I were pleased to find the birds of Switzer quite active today,
highlight was late Blue-headed Vireo near the Lake's boat launch.
We found Red-breasted Nuthatches at two stops, juncos galore and at least five
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. Two Pied-billed Grebes had the Lake to themselves.
Busy mixed flocks included one with a Brown Creeper, GC Kinglet, RB & WB
Nuthatches, sapsucker, Downy WP and BC Chickadee. The activity at several
stops was reminiscent of fall warbler flocks...that is, without the warblers!
We tallied about 21 species -- well more than expected for this near-winter
visit.
