I have not seen images, but I understand (third-hand) that an out-of-state
group of birders last week photographed, identifiably, the Terek Sandpiper at
Craney Island (reported to this listserv by Ben Copeland, who independently
found it 9 August). The bird could conceivably still be in the area, so it
may
be worth checking Craney in coming days for this very distinctive bird. If
identifiable photographs and good details are received, and the bird is
accepted
by the state records committee, this would be one of the rarest bird species,
in continental and regional terms, ever documented in Virginia.
