This evening as I was driving home on US 460, I saw a Turkey (hen, I think)
in the median and two others across the highway on the right. I tapped the
brake to warn the car behind me but before I could even slow down the turkey
decided to make a dash back to the others. I hit her head on at 50 mph.
After I got home a few minutes later I found damage to the grill and hood
and several feathers stuck to the front. Most of the feathers were about
six inches long. As I pulled them off I noticed how just how colorful they
were. The edges were a shimmering pink and bronze.
I felt so bad about killing such a big and beautiful bird. But after I got
over the shock and had time to think, I was grateful it wasn't a deer.
