This morning, for about the past 30 minutes, several of us have been watching
an immature hawk who appears to have a talon stuck in a branch of a dead tree
and can't extricate himself.
We only have some binoculars, but what we need is a spotting scope to confirm
that the talon is actually stuck and that he is not just timid about flying in
the pouring rain--and it has been pouring here. The bird arches its wings as if
about to take off, and then doesn't. Is this normal behavior?
Who can we call to rescue this bird and how long should we wait? Our animal
shleter is closed this morning and the Wildlife Rescue League doesn't have the
means to actually come and pick up the bird.
The bird is in?Reston, across the street from the main entrance of the U.S.
Geological Survey, near the corner of Sunrise Valley Drive and U.S. Geological
Survey Drive.
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
