I saw a willet at about 9am from the pedestrian bridge overlooking hunting
creek in the mud flats. I did get a few photos as well. It was hanging out
with three Greater Yellowlegs. My bad for not getting this our earlier.
I have not seen many reports from the bridge. It has a great view of the mud
flats during low tide and I think will have great light during the evening.
It’s a bit of pain to access. Nearest parking is at Jones Point about a 10
minute walk.

Subject: [VA-bird] Western Willet/Dyke Marsh/Stone Bridge
Saw one Western Willet low tide at the Dyke Marsh/ Stone Bridge - north end of
GW Pkwy just before it hits Old Town Alexandria -
Saw it in bad lite on east side of bridge - larger than asset’d Yellowlegs w. a
thicker bill that looked to have a slight droop at the end. Gizz was different
than YellowLegs in that it was more ‘deliberate” in its endeavors. Disappeared
into the spatterdock and I did not see it again on east side of bridge.
Same bird (?) found on west side of bridge as tide was almost full. Was closer
to a Yellowlegs this time for a better comparison size wise. Gray legs now
clearly visible in better light. Dull gray above with some gray on chest. No
supercillium.
