Greetings,
Just a quick note to say the VSO Breeding Bird Foray will be in Franklin
County, 6-14 June 2015. Evening get-togethers will be at Ferrum College.
If you are interested in participating, and/or would like more info, you
can contact Clyde Kessler at
ckessler@xxxxxx
Some of the "target" species are Summer Tanager (because the local breeding
population has declined greatly since the 1970s), Blue-headed Vireo
(because there is a lowland population, without documented nesting records,
along with the higher elevation population). Others include Whippoorwill,
Chuck-will's-widow, Vesper Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, and Horned Lark.
I hope you can participate a day or two in the foray. And for those of you
planning to attend the VSO summer field trip to Blacksburg (June 12-14),
Franklin County is only about an hour's drive from Blacksburg. So maybe you
can include the foray in your plans.
Cheers, and good birding,
Clyde Kessler
