The following tally is from this past weekend's VSO trip to Chincoteague.
The weather was very windy and rainy Sat. as most of the state but the birds
were good and their reaction to the storm was interesting to watch as they
collected in sheltered areas. Sat. afternoon at the height of the rain, a
ride around the wildlife drive found hundreds of shorebirds near the raised
road which offered protection. This made for great viewing. Some highlights
were black terns, white-rumped sandpipers, several lark sparrows, a great
horned owl near the Refuge Inn and a Wilson's phalarope running in circles
on a sand bar.
