Today, when we were busy visiting friends and going out to choose a Christmas
tree, we encountered 5 seperate bald eagles without even looking for them, LOL!
The first one was in our backyard this morning...full adult flew right over my
head as I was letting the dogs into the house...at about 1st-floor gutter
level. NO mistaking that one! The second was soaring in Williamsburg, next to
route 199 almost near Lightfoot. White head but did not notice if the tail was
white or not. As we headed back to Suffolk from Williamsburg, two flying
adult bald eagles greeted us as our ferry docked in Surry. One was nice enough
to perch right next to the boat on the osprey platform so a gentleman on our
boat could get a good photo. Funny what you see when you aren't looking.

And a comment about the extinction list that was recently sent...my friend at
The Peregrine Fund in Idaho notes the following good news:
"One happy note....there is a bird on there that isn't
extinct. The Mauritius Kestrel is not....The Peregrine Fund bred a bunch in
captivity, released them on Mauritius and they now have a self-sustaining
population."
