A walk at Andy Guest Shenandoah River State Park, located about 8
miles south of Front Royal on US Route 340, between 1100 and 1200 on
Sunday, 4/12/2009, produced the following birds:

Turkey Vulture - 6
Canada Goose - 3
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 2
Downy Woodpecker - 4
Tree Swallow - 1
Carolina Chickadee - 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1
Louisiana Waterthrush - 1
Northern Cardinal - 4
Red-winged Blackbird - 2

Virginia Bluebells were flowering, near their peak, in the Park.

Also seen were Junenal's Duskywing, Zebra Swallowtail, Eastern Tiger
Swallowtail, Cabbage White and Spring Azure butterflies.


This morning, Monday, 4/13/2009, at our feeders near scenic, downtown,
Limeton which is located about six miles south of Front Royal on US
Route 340, from 0830 to 0930, the following birds were seen:

Mourning Dove - 5
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 2
Downy Woodpecker - 1
Eastern Phoebe - 1
Blue Jay - 3
Carolina Chickadee - 1
Tufted Titmouse - 2
White-breasted Nuthatch - 1
Chipping Sparrow - 1
White-throated Sparrow - 6
Dark-eyed Junco - 2
Nothern Cardinal - 4
Red-winged Blackbird - 1
Brown-headed Cowbird - 4
Purple Finch - 2
Pine Siskin - 22
American Goldfinch - 2

Also this morning at a farm house near Limeton, at 1000, were:

Eastern Bluebird - 1
Eastern Towhee - 1
House Wren - 1
Northern Flicker - 1
Eastern Meadowlark - 5
