All,
I arrived at Claytor Lake in Pulaski County around 9:00 ish this morning and
after about an hour or so of waiting the Brown Booby showed. It flew over
the Gazebo but I wasn't actually at the Gazebo during that part of the show.
I got on the bird later as it was fishing on the damn side of the Gazebo
vantage point near some houses on the park side of the lake. After about 1
hour of ducking in and out of inlets and disappearing and reappearing
etc.... it was spotted coming down the far side of the lake approaching the
miniture lighthouse. It landed on the water and stayed for about 20 minutes
or so and then flew back up the lake away from the damn and towards the
cabins. This was before noon sometime. I stayed til 2:00 -2:30 and it had
not been spotted again when I left. . Even though this is a large and very
different looking bird it can be very hard to spot as it flies low over
water and is usually flying against a back drop of brownish trees and such.
Adult Bald Eagle high above the lake and a perched Cooper's Hawk on the
island were nice additions
Sincerely,
