As the season progresses, there are fewer and fewer insects or spiders
available as food for warblers and other insect-eating birds.
What the birds are obtaining from insects and spiders are fat and protein,
thus the reason they will eat both suet and peanut butter, or even
sunflower hearts that are available without the shell.

For at least two weeks female Cape May Warblers have been coming to feed
at our peanut butter mixture in our suet feeder. In my many years of feeding
birds I have never witnessed this before. One female is still here this
