I don't think the Great Egrets are common. I saw one in Loudoun on January 1 
this year on a pond off of Ashburn Village Blvd and Michener Dr. It was 
standing 
on one side and then flew over to land in a tree on the other side. Beautiful 
big bird. There were 10 Hooded Mergansers on the pond at the time. Next time 
I'll report it immediately.
