It's my experience there is a flurry of activity at my feeders in late April
and early May as the migrants push through. Then it slows down to a few here
and there, (at least one a day!) as the breeders move in. As the breeding
season gets under way I have the adults visiting occasionally (have to admit as
it gets hot and humid I am monitoring the feeders a lot less). Then by late
summer (August) the real show begins as the young start to visit and the
weather is nicer for backyard watching. This usually is the best period, from
August through mid-September.
So far the year at my feeders is about average.

Since I moved to town about 10 years ago, the hummers have shown up in modest
numbers from early to mid-May; thus far I have seen 0, nada, zip, none at my
feeders and very few out and about.

I have seen Hummingbirds twice in May this year passing through my
shrubs heading somewhere else. Both ignored the feeder. Last yearthey did
not start to come regularly to my feeder until May 28.
