Hey Ashley! I did learn over the weekend that if someone messes up and puts it
on the wrong ebird portal (and by someone I mean me… I selected VA ebird and
not VABBA2 on my app – birding without reading glasses… dangerous at times) it
can be switched to another portal. On the regular ebird site, you must choose
the checklist in question and then to the right in the same area as “Share with
a friend” there’s an option to “change portal”. I changed it and backtracked
to the VABBA portal and it worked. You probably already know about this. I
found it super handy.
Have a great evening!

Subject: [Va-bird] Important PSA on Reporting Bird Breeding Codes!
Hi Folks,
Breeding season is in full swing and lots of breeding codes are being submitted
to the VA Breeding Bird Atlas eBird portal, which is fantastic! However, lots
of breeding codes are still also being entered into regular eBird. There seems
to be a misleading tale floating around that Cornell will somehow make sure
those observations end up in the Atlas portal. False!
For the record, the VABBA2 project will not receive breeding information logged
through the regular or Virginia eBird portals. Those interfaces do not use the
VABBA2 block map and have some inconsistences with the breeding codes included
there. Not only are observers not sending the data our way, but they may also
not be overlooking important details like Atlas block boundary locations.
If your intention is to provide valuable breeding bird data to the Atlas
project, then please be sure to use the following portal to input your data via
computer. Ebird.org/atlasva
Or! If entering data through the eBird app on your smartphone or pad, please
be sure to set your portal to the VA Breeding Bird Atlas for the duration of
the breeding season. You can do this by clicking the small wheel logo in the
bottom right-hand corner (for settings), then selecting ‘Portal’ to see a
drop-down list of all portal options.
Please let myself or any of the regional coordinators know if you have
questions about this.
Cheers,
AP
