all, Forgive the cryptic earlier post written from a tab device.... Greg
Moyers spotted what he thought was a Loggerhead Shrike as we were driving
along Cattleman Road in the Swoope Area in Western Augusta County. We stopped
to take a look around and sure enough we found two Shrikes perched in a small
shrub tree. We watched these birds for close to 30-40 minutes before they flew
across the road and disappeared. This is the same place L. Shrikes have been
seen in years past. Though I believe they were absent last year. Also seen
today were two Blue-winged Teal at Smithleigh Lake, and a pair of Purple
Finches at the feeders on Mossy Creek Road SW of Bridgewater. Also on Mossy
Creek road was a Northern Harrier (female) Phoebe's and Tree Swallows were
seen or heard just about every stop we made. At Augusta Wetlands we had nice
views of a Swamp Sparrow. Lots of RWBL and Grackles but could not locate any
Rusty Blackbirds today. best,
