The parking lot on top of US 33 on the WV/VA border has Red Crossbills from
time to time. Early morning is best but they are not consistently there. I have
also seen them at the Breastworks on 250 on the Augusta County/Highland County
border and also occassionally on Redish Knob and Flagpole area both sightings
for the Redish Knob area were in the Spring and interestingly a Red-Crossbill
Nest was found in this area on at least one occassion. Flagpole and Reddish
Knob area is a great spot to be during Warbler migration in the Spring. The
Rusty Blackbirds are a hit and miss bird for me I usually run into a group 1 or
2 times year but always in different locations.... ...
good birding!

Subject: [Va-bird] Looking for ..........
Can anyone steer me towards crossbills or Rusty Blackbird within a reasonable
distance from Charlottesville? Never did round up any crossbills last year,
nor Rusty Blackbirds; probably because of my inexperience in this state. I'd
really appreciate the help.
