As a follow up to this report ... I believe I saw an ebird report of a Golden
Eagle at Blackwater seen being carried into the visitor center by park
employees (or words to the effect). I believe this report was on Saturday the
27th.
I would love to hear more about the Golden Eagle in captivity/rescue - does
anyone have any information?

Subject: [MDBirding] Blackwater NWR: Saturday
A friend and I spent about five hours, from 11 to 4, at the Blackwater refuge
on Saturday. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and there were lots of birds
(List below).
Unfortunately we did not find the Golden Eagle, which was the bird we had
really gone for. The bird had been seen about 9:30 by Harry Armistead, who
told us where he saw it. We looked there and everywhere else on the refuge and
on Egypt Road for hours and could not find the Golden eagle.
But there was lots of other stuff.
Bald eagle- 28
White pelican -11
Snow Geese - 20,000, or more.
The Geese were in the large pond right by the wildlife Drive
and put on quite a show.
Tundra swan -at least 350 in several places.
Red-tailed hawk - 3
Pintail ducks- about 25 in the group that we saw.
Turkey vultures - 50 -100.
Horned larks - 35 - 40.
Canada geese - countless.
Northern Harrier -1
And a Delmarva Fox-squirrel on Egypt Road.
All in all a very nice day even without the Golden eagle.
