Hi Bob
Patty Elton and I were birding with a friend who owns 79 acres in Amelia County
on Sunday, and we saw a big flock of Pine Siskins and Goldfinches both feeding
on sweet gum seeds.

Subject: [Va-bird] Pine Siskins, sweet gums, election day
Hey,
While handing out sample ballots at my precinct this afternoon and
getting blown around by the northerly wind, I heard, then saw a flock of
siskins flying in, out, and around a sweet gum above me. They returned
many times. The tree did have visible gum balls and although it seems
logical that they were attracting the siskins, I've never actually seen
siskins eating the round seeds from them. And, no, I didn't have my
binoculars. Does anyone have firsthand experience with siskins eating
sweet gum seeds?
