Thank you all for your help. The bird was definitely Starling-sized rather
than Grackle-sized. Grackles are bigger than Robins and these birds weren't
nearly that big. In fact, I absent-mindedly thought it was a Starling (as
that's what I expected to see), but I then saw the purple, the yellow eyes,
and the the bill color - none of which were indicative of a European
Starling. I also checked eBird and saw that at least one Rusty Blackbird
was seen in James River Park, a few miles south of me, three days before I
saw the bird (I saw it Monday. The JRP siting was Friday).
