Or better yet, buy a duck stamp that will get you into any NWR in the entire
country. You can purchase one at Back Bay. You can't beat it, " Ninety-eight
cents of every dollar generated by the sale of Federal Duck Stamps goes
directly to purchase or lease wetland habitat for protection in the National
Wildlife Refuge System ."
Good birding.

Subject: [Va-bird] Virginia Beach - Back Bay NWR - Fees begin Tomorrow
Folks,
I just wanted to send out a quick message in case people had forgotten...
the West Dike opens tomorrow (April 1) at Back Bay NWR, and therefore the
park begins requiring entrance fees paid at the gatehouse (I believe the
daily fee is something like $5 or an annual pass is something like $20).
I'm very excited to see what birds are viewable in the interior of the
park, its always a very exciting time when birders finally gain access to
the interior impoundments and the maritime forest. It also increases the
available hiking distance in the park by a large margin. While the
beachfront, the Bay Trail and the Loop Road have yielded some great birds
this winter, I'm definitely looking forward to having some additional miles
of trail available!
