I wonder how you can tell if the hummers are the ones you've had all summer
or if they are migrants.

A quick response - hummers are really on the move (migrating) about now.
You should
have your locals still, but they're zipping around all over. Snickers Gap
hawkwatch
had a number yesterday, and today Huntley Meadows had dozens. My birds are
still hanging in there and I expect them to be here for another 6 weeks or
so, plus
passersby -
