Can't believe I forgot to include the other highlight at Leesylvania. Just at
the bottom of the hill from the Fairfax House ruins near the road (end of the
drive), I saw a Red Fox with a Mourning Dove AND a blackbird (probably a C.
Grackle) in its mouth, with a couple of live Grackles diving at it. When it saw
me, it dropped the blackbird, then grabbed it back and loped off up the trail.

Fairly subdued birding this morning; pretty much the usual suspects. I
started out at Leesylvania before dawn. Highlight here was a very cooperative
Black-billed Cuckoo up at the Battery. I was able to observe it from about
30-40 ft away for 15 min. while it was feeding low in the large Tulip Tree,
even saw the red of its eyes. Moved on to Occoquan about 9:00 in hopes that one
of the Alder Flycatchers reported last week might have hung around. I didn't
hear an Alder Flycatcher, but there was a Willow Flycatcher singing from the
area of the willows at the back of the parking lot pond.
