Greetings Fellow Birders,
The Virginia Avian Records Committee (VARCOM) is soliciting nominations to
fill the upcoming vacancies of two Voting Members of the committee. Voting
Members review records of bird sightings submitted to VARCOM. All data
submitted to VARCOM becomes a permanent part of the Commonwealth’s
ornithological record.
Any Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO) member may nominate a person to
serve on VARCOM. The nominee must be:
· a member in good standing of the VSO
· a person who has demonstrated expertise in the field
identification of birds and their distribution, and
· a person who accepts the duties of being a committee member as
outlined in section III.c.3 of VARCOM's bylaws.

It is the responsibility of the nominator to obtain the approval of the
nominee prior to submitting the nomination. Each nomination should be sent
to me (billwilliams154@xxxxxxxxx). The period of nomination will end October
1, 2015. The new class of VARCOM Voting Members will be elected by VARCOM
then presented for approval to the VSO Board of Directors at its November
meeting. This year two new members will be elected for a four year term to
replace Nick Flanders and Dick Rowe whose terms will expire at the end of
the calendar year and who are ineligible to succeed themselves. Continuing
committee members are Lee Adams, Adam D'Onofrio, Kerry Kilday, Ellison
Orcutt and Mike Stinson. Wendy Ealding serves as VARCOM Secretary. I look
