My son, Peter Morgan, reported on Friday that he had heard Virginia Rails at
the ponds at Saltville, Virginia. My wife, Helen, and I made an excursion
to Saltville this afternoon and heard a rail grunting in a marsh at the edge
of one of the ponds. We also saw ruff winged swallows and coots. We also
drove along route 91 toward Broad Ford and saw herons on their nests at the
