I was awakened at 4 AM by a GREAT HORNED OWL calling from the swamp below the
dam of our lake in Powhatan.? While I was delivering hot cross buns to our
neighbor, I heard an OVENBIRD calling - FOS at this location.? Since it was
such a nice morning, I headed over to Amelia WMA before it gets off limits due
to spring gobbler season.? No turkeys (at least of the avian kind) but, there
were plenty of WHITE-EYED VIREOS?calling and a single WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW
near the abandoned farmhouse.
