Thirty-one birders were present for the Warbler Day here on Compton Mountain on
Saturday. In spite of rain the birds came through and 51 species were recorded.
This was lower than in past years, but that may have been due to the rain. A
Red-tailed Hawk was the only raptor recorded. 13 warbler species came through
with the highlight being an adult male GOLDEN-WING. The other warbler species
were 7 AMERICAN REDSTARTS, 3 BAY-BREASTED, 4 BLACK-AND-WHITES, 8 BLACKBURNIANS,
6 BLACK-THROATED GREENS, 2 BLACKPOLLS, 7 CAPE MAYS, 6 CHESTNUT-SIDEDS, 2
HOODEDS, 7 MAGNOLIAS, 16 TENNESSEES, and 5 YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS.
