The Fairfax Audubon Society-sponsored Mason Neck waterfowl walk was conducted
between 8:00AM- 12 PM at the National Wildlife Refuge and adjacent State Park.
Areas surveyed consisted of the Great Marsh, Sycamore Road and Anchorage Road
(offtrail), and Occoquan Bay at State Park Headquarters. The
impoundment/rookery area was not surveyed because hunters occupied the blind
off the impoundment. Mason Neck is in southern Fairfax County.
What a contrast when compared with Kurt Gaskill's numbers just a week ago!
Almost everything was down, except for Black Ducks. I have no explanation, as
we had some very good eyes today scanning for waterfowl.
By the way, if you would like to join in the Fairfax Audubon Society- sponsored
waterfowl survey on Saturday, December 4, please register by calling
703-256-6895.
