Had a dozen or more Cedar Waxwings feeding on the red fruits of Shadbush
or Serviceberry (Amelanchier) on Sunday, May 6. Then a goldfinch eating
them on Monday, May 7.
This is a great tree for feeding birds, mammals, and insects. Insects
pollinate the white flowers, then birds and mammals take the fruits when they
are my favorite color--red--rather than waiting for the fruits to turn
blue. I've seen numerous kinds of animals getting these fruits when I have
time to watch (not much this year).
Had my FOS Ovenbird on May 6 and FOS Indigo Bunting on May 7.
Sincerely,
Marlene
