VA Birders,
I went to Chincoteague last Thursday, Sep. 23, in hopes the White-tailed
Pintail would still be there. Marv Rubin, who had seen the bird at least 2 or
3 times, took me out to Snow Goose Pool to look for it on Thursday afternoon
and Friday. On Friday we walked out in the morning and drove in the afternoon.
We did find the Hudsonian Godwit in Snow Goose Pool on Friday (pm), but no
sign of the W-c Pintail either day. However, most of the ducks, especially the
teal, were out in the middle of Snow Goose Pool, so if the pintail was with
them, it could easily have been overlooked unless it stuck its head up in plain
view. I left on Saturday afternoon, but didn't get home until Sunday
afternoon. Marv called me after I got home to tell me he had gone out to the
refuge and looked for the White-cheeked Pintail again on Sunday afternoon, but
once again he did not find it.
Good birding,
