Taking a Vertebrate Natural History class out yesterday to Peaks View Park in
Lynchburg one White-crowned Sparrow was a decent find there at the mulch piles
near the Wiggington Road parking lot, as well as three Killdeer out in the
nearby athletic field. There were at least 2-3 RB Nuthatches in the cedar
trees in the mountain bike trail area (have been hearing them fairly regularly
in the area in recent weeks), and GC Kinglets. A few grackle flocks that
should be exiting town within the next month, and cedar waxwings of course,
with one small group feeding on berries with some robins just inside the woods
around the back of the athletic field.
