Birders,
A White-eyed Vireo was seen this morning (12/29/07) in Sandston, VA within
the Bradley Acres subdivision. It was quite tame and stayed with the same
small area for some time.
Access to the area has been approved by the Fleming family, who live at 119
Webster Road. Please park on the street, walk down the driveway, go through
the wooden gate at left to the far corner of the yard. From there I observed
the bird in the low trees with berries in the E and NE yards.
Also seen in the area were: N Cardinal, D-E Junco, Tufted Titmouse,
White-throated Sparrow, Blue Jay, and White-breasted Nuthatch.
Since I am a Utah birder, unfamiliar with bird distribution in Virginia, I
post the following with the hope that it may be of some use. This afternoon,
I birded Yorktown from the shopping areas on the shore just East of the big
bridge to the pier accross from the Yorktown bluff cave. Observed were:
Common Loon, Horned Grebe, Northern Gannett (at least one dove, perhaps 10
present), Brown Pelican, cormorant species, Common Goldeneye, Bonaparte's
Gull, Ring-billed Gull (likely), and Northern Mockingbird. Also on the hill
above the cave area we found a large flock of Cedar Waxwings, some
starlings, and a sapsucker.
