I photographed a White-throated Sparrow yesterday at James River State Park
that has yellow marginal coverts:

I have never seen this feature before on a WT Sparrow, so I started doing
some research, and found that WTS sometimes hybridize with other sparrow
species such as White-crowned. I do have one photo of a WC Sparrow with
yellow marginal coverts that I took this past July in Seattle, Washington:

and I have photographed some Grasshopper Sparrows here in Virginia with
yellow marginal coverts:

Can anyone help me with the WT Sparrow? Is it a hybrid, or just a coloring
that some sparrows have?

Thanks,
