While walking in my neighborhood this morning I heard & saw my first WILLOW
FLYCATCHER of the season. It, along with a couple of YELLOW WARBLERS and a
couple of COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, were along the small stream where all of them
nest. Also, while BOBOLINKS have joined the many meadowlarks in the area and
have been here since April 29 or 30, there was a single female mixed in with a
flock of 25 or 30 BOBOLINKS this AM. While these will probably move on to
other areas, hopefully a few will stay & nest as they have the past few years
when the farmers don't cut the fields too frequently.
Both EASTERN WOOD-PEEWEES, RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, and an occasional SCARLET
TANAGER were also calling from the woodlots that border the fields.
On Sunday I was intrigued to find two female ORCHARD ORIOLES along another
stream in the area on Sunday but no males. The same day I saw what was
probably my last WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW of the season on Ebenezer Church Rd.
Don't you love this time of year!
